Aids’ school

Aids’ school is the learning process of using aids to ride a horse.

For horse riding, natural aids are the hands, the legs and the body weight. To control our aids means first acting with 1 aid – simple action – then try not to disrupt the rest of the body – aids independance – and finally tune all the aids together – aids harmony

Working on our simulators prepare this learning process.

Exercices’ examples on equestrian simulator to learn to master hands while riding

  • Learn how to to hold 2,4,6 reins
  • Dynamic positionning of the hands : hands up or hands down
  • Mobilization of the upper limb’s joint : shoulders, elbows, wirsts
  • Dynamic coordination of upper limb to acquire a good contact with the horse mouth

Exercices’ examples on equestrian simulators to learn to master legs while riding

  • Mobilization of the coxo-femoral’s joint
  • Open and close the knee
  • Ancke’s flexibility
  • Work in adduction with squeezed legs
  • Work in abduction with legs apart
  • Impulsive leg’s action back and forth
  • Leg’s action in center
  • To each legs’action : repeated and growing action “in crescendo”
  • Do all those exercices in the 6 different fonctionning options of the rider

Exercices’ examples on equestrian simulator to acquire aids’ independance

  • Hands’ exercices above will be repeated with legs apart. Then alternating (for ex every 5 strides) squeezed legs and legs apart
  • Do those exercices in the 6 different fonctionning options of the rider
  • Legs’ exercices will be done with tight reins, pay attention to keep a steady contact with the simulator’s “mouth”

Exercices’ examples on equestrian simulator to acquire aids’ harmony

  • Alternate every different exercices respecting the principle “legs without hands and hands without legs”
